Today is our new intern’s first day! Her name is Heather and you will absolutely love her. She fits in so well with our group dynamic that it’s as if she were always here. Heather is spending some quality time with us over the summer while she is on break from Miami Oxford majoring in Mass Communications. We’ll have Heather introduce herself to the world in a later blog posting all about her once she gets herself all settled.

I spent this morning walking Heather through all our business pieces, websites, marketing materials and internal systems to give her a brief overview of all that we do. As we chatted for a while I realized how much we constantly change and morph for the better. I mean, my full time job is to create, critique and recreate marketing pieces and websites in order to constantly strengthen our brand. Whether I am making our office more efficient by getting our printer gone rogue back on track or redesigning our website…again… in order to have our brand image more closely match our personalities, things are always  a changin’.

One of the largest updates we have made is in our marketing materials. Over the past month, Cecilia has been working extensively with a marketing team to tackle the look and feel of where we as a company are going. The result of these extensive discussions created, as one could imagine, an incredible amount of work… for me. I love it when Cec comes back with her portfolio in hand carrying all her scribbled notes from the meeting and says “I have a few small changes I’d like to talk to you about.” When she says this famous phrase, she really means “Don’t kill me, but they want us to completely redesign everything we’ve ever done in about a week. Is that Possible?” After five minutes of hysterical laughing I typically say, “I’ll do what I can” which really means ” ARE YOU CRAZY!?! I just spend 3 months getting us here and you want a redesign in a week? I’m not sure I’ll get to sleep this week you know!!” After about 10 minutes of processing this ridiculous request, I buckle down and get started.

Now while I am responsible for changing everything, I am taking it one little step at a time. My order of attack it typically defined for me since we make irrational decisions like changing everything about three days before something major is due to be sent to print. Honestly, I think the team is just trying to keep me on my toes. I can’t possibly get too comfy where I can put in a normal 40 hour work week. Yesterday we tackled some huge pieces of our marketing message. We defined our ideal client who after about 4 hours of talking turned out to be identical to us. It would have been WAY easier if we could have just written down the word “us” and moved on but noooooo, we had to take the long, more exhausting way there.

After hours of work we created something that I find magical. It all seemed to click and fall into place for us. The first piece I designed will be featured in local magazines and any printed marketing pieces we choose to participate in. I hope you love it as much as we do!

This is the direction we are headed and with our new found momentum we are extremely excited to see where it takes us! Let us know if you like it!
